Rimmel BB Cream 9 in 1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup VS. L'Oreal MagicSkin Beautifier BB Cream + REVIEW

by - 3/20/2014

Hello my beauties! I'm here with another review for y'all. BB creams were never my thing, thats why I just purchased my first BB cream last month. I always go for a full coverage and I thought BB creams wont give me that. I wanted to see what the hype was about anyways so I finally purchased one from beautyjoint and one from Walmart. The two that I got are Rimmel BB Cream Beauty Balm 9 in 1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup (in medium) and L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream (in medium). These two BB creams have been in the market for a while and are much talked about.

What they claim

Rimmel BB Cream Beauty Balm 9 in 1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup (in medium)- "It's a skin perfecting super makeup! 9 in 1 results: Primes, Moisturizes, Minimizes Pores, Conceals, Covers, Smoothes, Mattifies, Brightens and helps Protect. Lasts all Day."

L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream (in medium)- "Beautifying Beads: encapsulated pigments that instantly transforms to your perfect shade for the look of a flawless bare skin finish. The ultra-light lotion with vitamin C & E provides all day moisture."

They both claim to do a lot now the question is do they really do what they claim? Lets find out.

Packaging: There is nothing special about them, just in normal tube form, like most BB creams.

Review

Rimmel BB Cream Beauty Balm 9 in 1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup (in medium)

Colour: I bought this from beautyjoint.com, so I didn't really have the advantage of testing on me for the right colour. I guessed I'd be a medium, which did end up being close to my skintone.

Formula: It's a thick creamy consistency, very drying, It's hard to blend it out with your fingers like a cream so you need to use a flat top brush or a foundation brush to blend it out. You also have to blend it out quickly because it does dry pretty fast. The formula almost feels like foundation to me. It has SPF 18 so that is a plus point.

Skin type: I'd say this is more for normal to combination skin. I wouldn't recommend this for dry skin type because after application it is very dry and after a few hours of wear it becomes very oily so I wouldn't recommend it for oily skin type either.

Coverage: It gives a medium coverage, hides small blemishes. If you're looking for full coverages this is not the one for you. It does get cakey if not blended properly.

Lasting power: I was very impressed with the lasting power, even though after some time it made me oily on the days I didn't use a setting powder, it held up for the whole day on days that I did use a powder to set it.

Price: This retails for $8.00 CND, it's a drugstore product so I'd say that is a reasonable price.

Overall: I love this BB cream! I do go for a full coverage, but ever since I been using this I am really loving the medium coverage. I love the thick cosistancy of it. The only thing I don't like about it, is the fact that it makes me oily after afew hours. I don't have much problem with it being dry while applying because I can use a moisturizer, even though I'm not sure if that's even normal, putting a cream on top of a moisturizer, but this works for me.

Re-purchase: I'd still say BB creams are not my thing but since I really liked this one I would deffenatly repurchase.

L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream (in medium)

Colour: I bought this from Walmart, so I did have the advantage of trying it on to find my colour but unfortunately they didn't have a tester so I was out of luck, but I assumed I'd be a medium. It comes out white from the tube with tiny gray beads and after you apply it, it oxidises into a natural skin tone.  This colour ended up being way too light for me.

Formula: This formula is comeletly different from the first one. This one is very runny and almost feels like lotion. It's very light, does give a matte finish. I would say this justifies it's self better as a primer than a BB cream.

Skin type: I'd recommend this for normal to combination skin type because again, like the first one this also drys matte but ends up being very oily. I found this being more oily than the Rimmel one.

Coverage: Very light. It's good for people who are looking for very light tint. It is not cakey at all. I wouldn't consider this as a BB cream it works better as a primer rather than just on its own.

Lasting power: I started getting oily within  an hour so I wouldn't say this has a good lasting power.

Price: It was around $11. I thought it's a bit expensive for such a small tube.

Overall: I did not like this product. Even though I got it in the shade medium, it gave me a very light ghostly finish. Light coverage. No SPF. Expensive. Poor lasting power. Made me oily. After using this for the first time I started noticing bumps and it made me itch a little. I know a lot of people love this cream but I personally did not like anything about this product.

Re-purchase: No.

In conclusion: it's very obvious which one I like better and why. I do feel Rimmel BB cream was true to what it claimed than the L'Oreal one. This is just my opinion on these two products based on my experience, you might have your own.

What's your favourite BB cream?

I hope this was helpful. Thank you for reading.
